Description

CRAFTED BY THE FEDERAL GLASS COMPANY BETWEEN 1932-1979 are Six Perfect 1 OUNCE PONY/SHOT Glasses With Star-Shaped Base. LIKE-NEW Condition is "Used".
Not all tiny, drink vessels are shot glasses.
Shot glasses, jiggers and shooters each have a distinct purpose for measuring, mixing or drinking alcoholic drinks. However, it’s not uncommon for all three to be called “shot glasses” and used interchangeably by those who serve drinks.
A “pony shot” (aka “pony”), on the other hand, is a little more precise. It equals 1 fluid ounce.
These glasses are marked with an “F within a Shield” trademark indicating they were manufactured by the Federal Glass Company, Columbus, Ohio sometime between 1932-1979.
“The “F inside a shield” logo was first used in 1932, according to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office records, but as researcher/ author Marg Iwen reported in her article on Federal, the mark is shown in catalogs as early as 1927. How late this mark was used seems open to question, as some sources seem to imply the mark was phased out around 1958, which was when Federal Glass merged with Federal Paper Board Company, Inc. (based in Montvale, New Jersey). The merger took place in June of that year. I think it is very likely the “F in a shield” was used all the way up to 1979 when the factory closed down production. Some glass items made for the United States Bicentennial (1976) are marked with the “Shield F”.” (Cited source: glassbottlemarks.com)
