THE MAGIC SHOWSTARRING
DOUG HENNING
1974
Doug Henning not only starred in THE MAGIC SHOW, he
was
THE MAGIC SHOW. While the book by Bob Randall and a score by Stephen Schwartz remained frustratingly earthbound, the illusions of Doug Henning soared (quite literally) high above the stage of the Cort Theatre. THE MAGIC SHOW was something Broadway audiences had not seen before: Stupefying illusions wrapped up in all the razzmatazz of a Broadway musical. Many said the magic of Doug Henning exceeded even the breathless thrills of Houdini. Audiences must have agreed because they kept the show running for nearly 2000 performances. Henning was nominated for a Tony Award as was director Grover Dale. Plus the show featured the knockout beauty of the late Anita Morris. This colorful and dramatic window card has been framed and glazed since 1974. Recently deframed, it remains in excellent condition. Three corners have the slightest ding of no more than 1/8". Upper right corner has the tiniest white dots the size of pin pricks which do not penetrate the card. Colors are as vivid and bright as ever. Hard to believe this show was almost 50 years ago but that would account for the growing scarcity of THE MAGIC SHOW window cards. This window card is from the original print run. It is not a reprint.
