Description
Beautiful historical Lea Ahlborn Oscar I (King, 1844 - 59) Silver Funeral Medal, 1859. The Medal is about 31 mm across, it weighs about 12.6 g, and the Edge is Plain.The Medal is scarce - at the time of this posting it is the only such medal I could find listed in the Internet.
The Obverse of the Medal features
Laureate head, left; signed L.A. below truncation, and the Inscription reads:
OSCAR I SVERIGES NORRIGES G. O. V. KONUNG. The Reverse of the coins depicts
an exterior view of Riddarholmskyrkan church in Stockholm, with Carl XII's mausoleum between two others, and the Lettering reads:
* NYTT RUM I SVENSKA MINNETS TEMPEL * (A new room opened in the Swedish memory's temple.) / UPPLATET D. 8. AUG. 1859.
"This coin was not thrown out at the time of the funeral, but given to corporations and employers for distributions. It was the last of the funeral coins!" [The Numismatist, April, 1922, vol. 35; page 167].
