Jim Morrison’s exceedingly rare signed self published An American Prayer hardcover limited edition poetry book,
published in 1970. One
of if not the nicest signed copies I’ve come across in my 40 plus years of collecting.
Jim published anywhere from 100 (some say) to 500 of these An American Prayer poetry books, this is an
extremely rare and highly desirable book sought out by collectors of Jim Morrison and the Doors items, but
also of
rare books and this copy is beautifully signed and inscribed in brown felt tip pen and dedicated “For Doug
Washington J Morrison" by Jim and the page is in immaculate condition!
Jim published these An American Prayer poetry books to give to friends and acquaintances, he wasn’t just
a singer songwriter in one of the biggest bands in popular music..Jim considered himself to be a poet above
all else and this self published book of his poetry was very meaningful to him.
This 40 page faux leather bound book itself measures 4" X 4.75” and has heavy card stock maroon covers
with gilt lettering on the front. The inner pages of the book are in Near Mint condition and the outer covers
are in excellent condition with only minor flaws, with a scuff to the front cover and a very shallow crease on
the back, both are barely noticeable. The spine is crisp with no crease down the middle from being opened
all the way, which is amazing for a book that’s over 40 years old.
