J.C.DEAGAN Chicago-#500-5 CHIME~XYLOPHONE~SHIP**RAILROAD~DINNER
FIRST: This chime had remnants of ROTTEN cords that held each chime(the chimes were laying FLAT on the wood)..I finally found nice new cord the same size that I finally figured how to weave under the 5 chimes thru those little holes~~~.I LEFT LONG pieces of that cord I found that YOU can cut down to the length you want left.I recommend NOT THAT SHORT and also any longer cord can attach to a clapper that you use(Clapper not included).This restring job was quite INTERESTING to say the least! This NEW cord I used should last MANY MANY YEARS to come!So ring those chimes as much as you want!!!!
I have shown photos of BEFORE(flat chimes  on box/rotten strings) and AFTER(re string) and also the same about that paper tag for PATENTS)where is was and  came off and NOT THERE(partial tag will be included along with the pieces of rotten string.
This xylophone music instrument/ dinner chimes by J.C. DEAGAN-Chicago. The tag on the back shows this style made by Deagan was  patented many times but most of that label is missing as shown in photos. Measures
approximate 10 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 1 3/4" inches and the metal bars look to be made of copper or brass??. Has age wear showing a few scratches to both metal and wood.  There was no clapper with it when I got it-but I have tapped on it with all sorts of lightweight things and it makes a wonderful sound. Back shows wear and paper(that came off when I moved it taking photos(but with info missing but does have the  some original patent dates info and also back has two tiny holes on the top where it must have been hung on a wall at some time that holders have been added. . And has a bit of dust on it here and there. Dark finish on the wood--but I am not certain what type wood the box would have been made
*There are some letters and a number also stamped on the back that looks like: DEAGAN PLATE CHIME  No.500
I know that this type chime was also used in railroad cars for 'dinner calls'.
I  also read on GOOGLE where this J.C.DEAGAN  had dinner chime sheet music(not included). This is a very heavy chime. Will be sent Large Flat Rate Box
