The Royal Black Stewart Tartan is best known retrospectively for the 17th century dynasty that ruled England for more than a hundred years, and is the personal tartan of Queen Elizabeth II. Originally worn by Scottish highlanders, theoretically this tartan should not be worn without express permission of the Queen, but in practice it can be worn by anyone who doesn't have a tartan of their own. This kilt is 23" long with 9" sewn down pleats circling the waist to the flat front apron. The fringed outer apron of this kilt, is pinned down at the lower left corner with the traditional decoration of a thistle pin. It is made of fine quality wool and lined with viscose rayon.Plaid colors include light blue, tomato red, white, and yellow on a black background.
