Description
Timeless Stitches Boy's Zouave Jacket (Confederate and Civilian) Pattern TSM-764. New pattern in the original factory fold. The pattern is for sizes 4, 6 and 8 (chest measurement 23, 25, and 27".)"Zouave jackets were worn by boys of all ages. Originally these jackets were styled with the characteristics of the Algerian uniform. They were small with the front cut-a-way exposing much of the blouse underneath. They were fastened at the neck with a hook and eye or a button closure. During the 1860's the jacket was adapted to civilian wear. As the style progressed the cut-a-way front was reduced until some of the later Zouave jackets had almost a square styling. The amount of ornamentation on the jacket also decreased, with simple black accents replacing much of the original fancy braid.
This pattern is for a Zouave jacket with two styles of front: a rounded style similar to men's Zouave uniforms and a squarer civilian style. There are instructions included for two methods of construction, those used to create a uniform look and the usual civilian method used to make girl's and women's jackets. Much of this pattern is based on The Handbook of Practical Cutting on the Center Point System (1855) which shows a draft for a Zouave Jacket."
Fabric Requirements: 1-yard of 60" wide fabric or 1 1/2 yards of 45" wide fabric--depending on size. Hook and eye for closure. Military coat: 1 package double fold bias tape in desired color, soutache braid, flat braid or midi braid for any desired trim.
