We actually ran a few of these (NOT the ones for sale, however) through the dishwasher....the came out PERFECT!  The faux leather sleeves held up great & you really could not tell them from ones that are still in the box & have not been cleaned.  The faux leather covering can technically be removed (easier when wet), but they're not necessarily designed to be removed.
