Track Attack Prototype #1 started life in 2009 as an intermediate track chassis for the Hendrick Motorsports number 5 Cup team. It raced twice, once at Texas in late 2009 garnering a 4
    th
place finish, and once at Las Vegas in early 2010, also finishing 4
    th
. It was retired from competition at the conclusion of the 2010 season after serving as an unneeded back-up for 15 races.
After sitting in storage for one year it was brought back into service as the primary platform for the first generation 6 bodied Chevrolet SS prototype. After being used as the gen 6 R&D prototype, it was then put back into storage before being brought back out in early 2019 for another prototype assignment.
Beginning in early 2019 chassis 5-555 was brought to the Hendrick Performance Groups race shop to be mechanically disassembled, inspected then converted to road course configuration. It would soon become the very first Track Attack prototype and the first to be bodied as a Chevrolet SS.
After completing the chassis conversion, its body was then prepped and sprayed with Axalta code 70 Corvette flame red paint with vinyl white graphics added. While the body was being prepped and painted, its engine, transmission, differential, brakes, steering, and suspension were completely rebuilt and set aside for reassembly.
It is powered by a Hendrick Motorsports prepared Chevrolet R07 race engine producing over 700 horsepower. It is equipped with a dry sump oiling system which provides superior lubrication during high-speed cornering, and a NASCAR spec radiator and oil cooling assembly. The engine has less than 10 hours since rebuild and is backed by the race proven Andrews A-431 H-pattern 4-speed.
A Hendrick Motorsports designed and built 9 differential, housing a G-Force locker unit and Cup spec seals, bearings, races, hubs and axles completes the drivetrain assembly. The heavy-duty race spec differential uses an external gear oil cooler and is capable of at track ratio swaps via the removable carrier.
The immense stopping power of this Track Attack car is provided by AP Racing 6 piston front and 4 piston rear Cup spec calipers. All four brake assemblies are independently cooled via aerodynamically channeled air from side NACA and front fascia ducts. Front and rear brake bias is driver adjustable.
Safety systems include a full roll cage, on board fire suppression system, 6-point racing harness, carbon fiber racing seat with molded insert and leg boards, encapsulated drive shaft containment tube and a Cup spec fuel cell system with safety check valve. Aerodynamic safety features include fully functional roof & cowl flaps and anti-lift roof strips and decklid fin.
The rear suspension system is a truck arm/solid housing road course design with adjustable wedge, ride height and track bar. The front suspension is a double wishbone design that is wedge, bump, toe, caster, camber and ride height adjustable. All four shock absorbers are Cup spec and are rebuildable. Coil springs are utilized on all four corners and can be changed based on driver preference.
Vehicle telemetry is provided by Auto Meter spek-PRO light up gauges which consists of water temp, oil temp, voltmeter, oil pressure, fuel pressure, water pressure and an 11,000 RPM tachometer with memory.
