    Description

Excellent Scarce Piece of General Motors Locomotive Engine History and Memorabilia jammed into the form of an oversized 75th Anniversary Steel Coin. It is quite an interesting piece. I am not a coin grader but with the sharp deep relief detail on this with little to no wear, I would not hesitate to call it VG-Excellent. Look at the pictures and you can be the judge. 2" Diameter Steel. With over a 1/8" thickness, It is a coin of substance.
GM mated two large companies back in 1941 Winton Engine and the Electro-Motive Company forming the legendary EMD, or Electro-Motive Division. Many Folks will call it the Electro-Motive Diesel but this did not happen until a little further down the road. In 2005 GM sold their EM Division to Berkshire & Greenbrier Groups. They kept the same Iconic Logo that is on the coin as "Division and "Diesel" both start with the letter "D".  During the decades included from 1941 to the sale in 2005, GM did made some legendary advances in the Locomotive Engine Industry.  With the then new cleaner burning Electric Diesels, the old iron-horse steamers became obsolete. GM developed amazing engines, like the formidable 567 which they eventually turbo-charged. The EMD engines were so well-built and used in the industry, that any Rail Mechanic would tell you that with the proper maintenance -they would simply last forever.  Around the time this Anniversary Coin came out, GM was selling engines but slacked in the R&D Department. They eventually lost the market to General Electric. Caterpillar purchased EMD from Berkshire & Greenbrier in 2010 and the story does not end on happy note. I believe the LaGrange Plant was recently closed and the jobs, some 600+ were moved up into Canada.  So you are looking at scarce piece of exonumia, one that represents a much happier time in Industrial Age when Made in America meant something.
If you collect Railroad and Train Memorabilia, this is a good piece to add to your collection.   Own a bit of real Cool Piece Locomotive and General Motors History with this unique E-M D Coin.  A Perfect Gift for the Collector.
