1899 SWEDEN Silver 50 ORE King Oscar II >LAST DATE with BRODRAFOLKENS VAL Legend
    Description
This is a very nice, low mintage, silver,
    "50 Öre"
from the Kingdom of Sweden. After the coinage reform of 1873, these were the first type 50 Öre produced. This is the last date of the first type. The next type, which came in 1906, changed the obverse legend.
It was struck at the Stockholm mint in 1899 during the reign
of Oscar II, who ruled as King of Sweden from 1872 until his death on December 8, 1907, and as King of Norway from 1872 until Norway separated peacefully from Sweden on October 26, 1905.
    Weight: 4.94 Gram, 22 Millimeter, .600 Silver. Mintage: 720,070.

    Obverse:
    BRÖDRAFOLKENS VÄL •
    Welfare of the Brother People.
(refers to the then current union of Norway and Sweden)
    • Crowned O II monogram for Oscar II between the three crowns of Sweden. Small Saint Erik's head mintmark of the Stockholm mint.

    E.B. •
    For mint official
Emil Brusewitz who served from 1876 until 1908.
The Three Crowns have been a National Symbol of Sweden since the time of Albert of Mecklenburg.
    He became King in 1364.
    Reverse:
    50 • ÖRE • 1899 • Wreath.
    The Coin:
A lightly circulated example, it passed through some hands. It shows light honest wear and it has some of the normal marks and scratches. It is difficult to be positive, but the obverse may have been lightly cleaned. If so, it was long ago. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
